Sophomore Impact Trip

Who Do You Serve?

We made it to our cabins about 4:45.  Everyone got settled in … a little fishing, a little card playing, a little rock throwing (in the lake) a little kickball…

Dinner and a wild game of

Brief devo intro…  Our theme for the next 4 days!   Not only will be have opportunities to serve ‘Little Dixie’ but we’ll have the opportunity to serve one another (sometimes the hardest thing to do)

Matthew 20:20-28  …   We’re looking at these verses and examining our own hearts …  Am I wanting to ‘make a deal’ with God on my position with him?

Am I willing to do what it takes to really be a ‘servant’ and lay down my life for others?

… Jesus  said, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant … whoever wants to be first … let him be your slave …  hang on a minute …

looks like our rights decrease as our responsibilities increase … Jesus’ style of leadership is about adding value to other’s lives not ‘getting perks’ (sitting at the right hand of Jesus in His Kingdom) (John Maxwell Leadership Bible)

Galatians 5:13-14    For you were called to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.  For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself.

We are encouraging the students to ‘dig in’ to their own personal quiet time.  Taking the week’s scriptures and reading them again, and again – praying over them,  getting involved in what they’re reading, asking the Holy Spirit to challenge them personally and equip them for their  day –  as they – serve others by looking for opportunities to apply what they’ve read and been challenged with.

We THINK we are going to work here in the park tomorrow, but we won’t know until the morning.  These students are a great group of kids.

It’s late and I’ll post pics tomorrow !
